Cinnamate powder is an unsaturated carboxylic acid that occurs naturally in many plants. It is easily soluble in many organic solvents. It is obtained from cinnamon oil, or balsam such as styrax. Also found in shea butter. Cinnamic acid has a honey-like odor, and it and its various volatile ethyl esters are the main components in the essential oil of cinnamon, in which the related cinnamaldehyde is the main component.
