Zeaxanthin
Name: Zeaxanthin
Molecular formula: C40H56O2
Molecular weight: 568.85
Product Description:
Zeaxanthin (Zeaxanthin, 3,3'-dihydroxy-β-carotene), also known as zeaxanthin, has a molecular formula of C40H56O2 and a molecular weight of 568.85 [9]. It belongs to isoprene and is an oxygen-containing Carotene (Xanthophyll), and lutein (lutein) are isomers. Most of the zeaxanthin found in nature is the all-trans isomer (AllE-iso-mer).
Zeaxanthin is a new type of oil-soluble natural pigment, widely found in green leafy vegetables, flowers, fruits, wolfberry and yellow corn. In nature, it often coexists with lutein, β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, etc. to form a carotenoid mixture.

Exterior:
Pure zeaxanthin is a crystalline powder, orange-red and odorless. Its dilute solution is orange-red and it is a blood-red oily liquid above 10°C, and a yellow semi-solidified oily substance below 10°C.
Structure:
Zeaxanthin is a polyene molecule containing 9 alternating carbon-conjugated double and single bonds. Each end of the carbon skeleton is connected to an ionone ring with a hydroxyl group. This conjugated double bond system constitutes a light-absorbing chromophore that gives carotenoids their unique color and provides a visible light absorption spectrum that can be used for identification and quantification. Zeaxanthin has two stereocenters, so theoretically there can be 4 stereoisomers, namely 3R, 3'R-zeaxanthin, 3S, 3'S-zeaxanthin, 3R, 3'S-zeaxanthin and 3S , 3'R-zeaxanthin. However, the molecular structure of zeaxanthin is a symmetrical structure, and the two stereoisomers of 3R, 3'S- and 3S, 3'R- are actually the same. Therefore, there are actually only 3 stereoisomers of zeaxanthin, of which 3R,3'S-zeaxanthin and 3S,3'R-zeaxanthin are called meso-zeaxanthin, while naturally occurring zeaxanthin is mainly is 3R, 3'R-zeaxanthin
Features:
1. In the human body, zeaxanthin is a strong antioxidant. It can also protect the body tissue cells by quenching singlet oxygen, scavenging free radicals and other antioxidant behaviors, thereby protecting the biological system from some excessive oxidation reactions. potentially harmful effects
2. Anti-cancer effect
Zeaxanthin, like many carotenoids, can resist the damage of cells and organs caused by free radicals in the human body. Studies have shown that zeaxanthin is more effective than β-carotene in inhibiting the auto-oxidation of cellular lipids and preventing cell damage caused by oxidation, and the peroxidation of cellular lipids is associated with tumor growth, indicating that zeaxanthin has Reduce the occurrence of cancer and enhance immune function.
3. Prevent cardiovascular disease
Studies have reported that people with more daily intake of carotenoids have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease (Angiocardiopathy). The researchers found that zeaxanthin can inhibit the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) under in vitro conditions; zeaxanthin can significantly reduce the incidence of myocardial infarction and help slow down the process of arteriosclerosis.
4. Cataract Prevention
Zeaxanthin is one of the only two carotenoids in the lens. It has 11 conjugated double bonds in its molecule and a hydroxyl group on the tail group. This structure makes it have strong antioxidant capacity. As a strong antioxidant, it can quench the triplet state of singlet oxygen and photosensitizers, scavenge damaging oxygen free radicals, prevent membrane lipid peroxidation, reduce lipofuscin formation, and thereby prevent cataract formation. Studies have shown that people with high intakes of lutein and zeaxanthin are 19% to 22% less likely to develop cataracts than those with low intakes. 5. The role of age-related macular lesions
Without a properly functioning macula, a person's main visual function will gradually be damaged, and there is even a risk of blindness. At the center of the macula, the incident light is the strongest and the most reactive oxygen species are produced. A large number of epidemiological studies have also shown that zeaxanthin has the effect of specifically absorbing the most damaging blue light to the retina, thereby protecting the cone cells in the fovea. Many studies have shown that a short-term increase in zeaxanthin intake can increase macular pigment, thereby enhancing the ability of the macula to fight against harmful substances and light damage, preventing and slowing age-related macular degeneration.
6. In addition, zeaxanthin itself has high nutritional value. After eating, it can be converted into biologically active vitamin A in the human liver, which can promote the growth and development of the human body, protect vision and epithelial cells, improve disease resistance, and prolong life. Longevity, etc. have special effects.
