Salicylic acid is a white crystalline powdery substance found naturally in willow bark, white pearl leaves and sweet birch trees. Salicylic comes from Salix, the Latin name for the plant willow. Salicylic acid has excellent "exfoliating, cleaning pores" ability, high security, and the skin stimulation effect is lower than fruit acid, so it has become the new darling of care products. Salicylic acid can dilute pigment spots, narrow pores, remove fine wrinkles and improve the aging effect caused by the sun.

Similar to alpha-hydroxy acid, salicylic acid is a key ingredient in many skin care products and is used to treat seborrheic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, corns and keratosis. When used to remove thickened calluses, a typical concentration of 6% aspirin-vaseline is applied to the area for 1 hour and then washed off.

Salicylic acid has antibacterial properties to microorganisms and its antiseptic power is close to that of phenol. Salicylic acid can make keratin dissolve, its preparation concentration is different and pharmacological effect is different :1%-3% have keratinization promote and antipruritic effect; 5%-10% has keratinolytic effect, which can dissolve the adhesive substance between the connected scale cells in the cuticle, so that the cuticle is loosened and desquamate. It can also produce anti-fungal effect (because after removing the cuticle and inhibiting fungal growth, salicylic acid can help other anti-fungal drugs to penetrate and inhibit bacterial growth). 25% concentration is corrosive and can remove thick callose. Suitable for sebum overflow, seborrheic dermatitis, superficial fungal disease, warts, corns, callose and local keratinosis. Salicylic acid is also found in many shampoos as an active ingredient in dandruff removal.
