What's Alpha-Arbutin?
Arbutin, a hydroquinone glycoside chemically known as 4-Hydroquinone-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, is found in plants such as bearberry and bilberry. It is an emerging natural whitening active ingredient that is non-irritating, non-allergenic, and highly compatible. Arbutin's molecular structure contains two structural and functional groups: a glucose residue and a phenolic hydroxyl group. α-Arbutin appears as a white to light gray powder and is readily soluble in water and ethanol.
