What’s Microcrystalline cellulose?

Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) is a kind of straight chain polysaccharide bound by β-1, 4-glucoside bond [1], which is a very fine, free-flowing, short rod or powdery porous particle of natural cellulose hydrolyzed by dilute acid to limit degree of polymerization (LODP). Composed of white, odorless, tasteless crystalline powder.

In general plant fiber, microcrystalline cellulose accounts for about 70%, the other 30% is amorphous. Microcrystalline cellulose is widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and other industries. Different particle size and water content have different characteristics and application scope.

Function

Many useful products can be derived from the esterification or etherification of hydroxyl groups in cellulose polymers. The actual application of cellulose esters are: cellulose nitrate ester, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate and cellulose xanthic acid Chemicalbook ester. Cellulose ethers are: methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, cyanoethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. In addition, there are ester ether mixed derivatives.

Application

Anticaking agent. Emulsifier; Binder; Fracture; Dispersant; Tissue improver; Non-nutritive leavening agent; Dietary fiber; Opacification stabilizer; Heat stabilizer; Fast drying carrier; Differential powder and tablet. According to EEC regulations, can be used for high fiber bread; Low-calorie sweets, biscuits, cakes and breads; Fillers for pigments, flavors and edible acids; Dehydrated food, snack food and bionic fruit slices.
