Function

Doramectin is used to treat ectoparasites such as nematodiasis and acariasis of domestic animals. It is produced by fermentation of a new strain of Streptomycesavermitilis with recombinant genes. The main difference between doramectin and ivermectin is that C25 is replaced by cyclohexyl. It is highly effective against gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, eye worms, lice, ticks, mites and wound maggots. It is also effective against internal and external parasites, especially some nematodes (roundworm) and arthropods, but not against tapeworms, trematode and protozoa. Its mechanism of action is to increase the release of the inhibitory transmitter γ -aminobutyric acid (GABA) of the insect body, thereby blocking the transmission of nerve signals, so that muscle cells lose the ability to contract, and lead to the death of the insect body. The peripheral neurotransmitter of mammals is acetylcholine, which is not affected by doramectin. Doramectin does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, causing minimal damage to the central nervous system, and is relatively safe for livestock. The blood concentration and half-life of ivermectin were higher or longer than that of ivermectin. Injection for cattle and pigs and pouring agent for cattle have been approved in USA.
