Tannic acid powder (CAS No.: 1401-55-4) is a pale yellow to brownish-yellow amorphous powder, or a loose, shiny scaly or spongy solid. Tannic acid powder is highly hygroscopic, gradually darkening in air, and has a distinctive odor and astringent taste.

 

Tannic acid is found in the bark and fruits of many trees, such as Chinese gallnut, Turkish gallnut, tara pod, pomegranate, lacquer tree leaves, smoke tree, and witch hazel. They are also a major component of the galls formed on these trees by insects, accounting for 50% to 70% of their composition. Furthermore, approximately 70% or more of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, such as burnet root, rhubarb, chebula, cinnamon, mango, and agrimony, contain large amounts of tannins.

• Astringent and antidiarrheal: Tannic acid powder binds to intestinal proteins to form a protective film, reducing secretions and relieving diarrhea; it is also used for wound healing of oral ulcers, hemorrhoids, and minor burns/ulcers.
• Antioxidant and anti-aging: Tannic acid scavenge free radicals, reduces oxidative stress, protects cells, and delays aging; commonly used in skincare and anti-aging products.
