Function

Olmesartan is a non-peptide angiotensin II (Ang II) receptor (AT1 type) blocker. Compared with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI), olmesartan does not cause dry cough, rash, angioedema, etc. caused by ACEI, has few adverse reactions, and has a strong and lasting antihypertensive effect. Ang II is an important substance in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. It has the functions of constricting blood vessels, stimulating aldosterone synthesis, stimulating the heart, and promoting the reabsorption of sodium by the kidneys. Olmesartan antagonizes the effect of Ang II by selectively blocking the binding of Aug II to AT1 receptors on vascular smooth muscle, inhibiting the negative feedback regulation of renin secretion, resulting in an increase in plasma renin activity and circulating Ang II concentration, but This has no significant impact on the antihypertensive effect of olmesartan.
