Excessive use of parabens in cosmetics has been reported to cause contact dermatitis.Paraben, also known as paraben, has stronger antibacterial properties than benzoic acid and sorbic acid because it has a phenolic hydroxyl structure.
Mechanism of action
It destroys the cell membrane of microorganisms, denatures proteins in cells, and inhibits the activity of respiratory enzymes and electrotransmitter enzymes in microbial cells.The antibacterial activity of paraben ester is mainly due to the molecular state, and the hydroxyl group in its molecule has been esterified and is no longer ionized, so it has a good antibacterial effect in the range of pH3~8. While benzoic acid and sorbic acid are both acidic preservatives, they have a poor antibacterial effect in products with a pH > 5.5. The safety of paraben is very high, taking ethyl ester as an example, its LD50 is 5000mg/kg, ADI is 0~10mg/kg, while the LD50 of benzoic acid is 2530mg/kg, ADI is 0~5mg/kg, the LD50 of sorbic acid is 7630mg/kg, and ADI is 0~25mg/kg.
