What’s Vitamin B12?

 

Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a polycyclic compound containing cobalt trivalent, four reduced pyrrole rings are linked together into a Coo ring (similar to porphyrin), is the only vitamin containing metal elements. Function

1. Improve the utilization rate of folate, synthesize methionine (synthesized by homocysteine) and choline together with folate, synthesize cyanocobalamin schenyl precursor substances such as methylcobalamin and coenzyme B12 in the process of producing purine and pyrimidine, and participate in the methylation process of many important compounds. When vitamin B12 is deficient, the activity of transferring methyl groups from methyltetrahydrofolate is reduced, making folate into an unusable form, resulting in folate deficiency.
