Enrofloxacin

Introduction:

Enrofloxacin is effective against gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma, and its antibacterial activity is obviously better than norfloxacin, and its effect on mycoplasma is stronger than tylomycin and temimycin. This product is easily absorbed by internal administration, muscle and subcutaneous injection, and widely distributed in the body, except for the central nervous system, the drug concentration in other tissues is almost higher than the blood drug concentration. It can be deethylated in vivo and mainly produces the active metabolite ciprofloxacin, but the metabolism in animals varies greatly between species, and the metabolic rate in birds, dogs, rabbits and cattle is high, while the metabolic rate in horses and pigs is low.

 

Enrofloxacin is a new antimicrobial drug for veterinary use. It has a broad spectrum and high antibacterial action, and has specific effects on Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma. Function：

Enrofloxacin (ENR) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic .

It is a bactericidal agent. The bactericidal activity of enrofloxacin is concentration-dependent, with susceptible bacteria cell death occurring within 20-30 minutes of exposure. Enrofloxacin has demonstrated a significant post-antibiotic effect for both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and is active in both stationary and growth phases of bacterial replication.

Enrofloxacin is a synthetic antibacterial agent from the class of the fluoroquinolone carboxylic acid derivatives. It has antibacterial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism of action is not thoroughly understood, but it is believed to act by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase(a type-II topoisomerase), thereby preventing DNA supercoiling and DNA synthesis.

3. Pigs
Diseases of the respiratory and alimentary tract of bacterial or mycoplasmal origin (e.g. pasteurellosis, actinobacillosis, mycoplasmosis, coli-bacillosis, coli-septicaemia and salmonellosis) and mulifactorial diseases such as atrophic rhinitis and enzootic pneumonia, where clinical experience, supported where possible by sensitivity testing of the causal organism, indicates enrofloxacin as the of choice.
