What is ivermectin? It is a new, widely popular, high-efficiency, low-toxic antibiotic antiparasitic drug. It is a white crystalline powder and is a derivative of abamectin.

Ivermectin is divided into two types: human use and veterinary use.

Common human ivermectin is available in tablets and capsules for anti-parasites. Such as treatment of onchocerciasis and strongyloidiasis, hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, pinworm infection.

Veterinary drugs are divided into agricultural breeding and aquaculture. Agricultural farming is mainly used to kill parasites of pigs, cattle, horses, sheep, dogs, etc., generally by injection therapy. Water spraying is commonly used in aquaculture.

According to reports, the government of Zimbabwe has approved the use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19. So can it be used to treat the new crown? There is currently no effective evidence that ivermectin can treat COVID-19.

In addition, the FDA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the World Health Organization (WHO) have warned the public do not to use ivermectin to treat the COVID-19.

Merck, the manufacturer of ivermectin, also stated that it does not support the safety and effectiveness of the drug for the treatment of the COVID-19.

Therefore, ivermectin cannot be used for the treatment of patients with COVID-19.
