L-methionine

Description

    L-methionine is also known as methionine, and its chemical name is 2-amino-4-methylthiobutyric acid. L-methionine is an essential amino acid and has important nutritional value for the human body. L-methionine maintains the growth and development of the body and nitrogen balance. In medicine, it has a certain effect on the synthesis of choline and liver fat from adrenaline; L-methionine can promote the metabolism of fat in the liver and is clinically used for the prevention and treatment of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, etc.; L-methionine can be used for auxiliary treatment of poisoning by sulfonamide drugs, arsenic or benzene, and can also be used as a choleretic. In the feed industry, L-methionine is one of the most important amino acids required for livestock and poultry to synthesize animal protein. It is a fortifier of protein feed and a nutritional additive to make up for the balance of amino acids. Since methionine cannot be synthesized in animals and needs to be ingested from food, it is added to the feed. In addition, L-methionine is also a good antioxidant. The sulfur atom in the methionine molecule can scavenge free radicals.

Background:

The production of L-methionine includes fermentation, chemical synthesis and enzymatic preparation. The fermentation method does not have the value of industrial production due to its extremely low yield of methionine production. At present, the global production of methionine mainly adopts chemical methods, which are mainly divided into acrolein method, aminolactone method, malonate method, casein hydrolysis method, etc. according to the raw material route. However, L-methionine synthesized by chemical methods usually forms a chiral molecule of L-methionine, and the synthetic product is dl-methionine. In actual use, organisms can only use l-methionine. Especially in the pharmaceutical industry, dl-methionine must be prepared into high-purity l-methionine and d-methionine through physical, chemical, biological and other means. At present, in the pharmaceutical industry, enzymatic hydrolysis of dl-methionine is the main means of preparing l-methionine, and the enzyme mainly comes from pig kidney aminoacetylase and Aspergillus niger aminoacetylase.
