Dioctyl maleate is a white powder/Colorless transparent liquid. Freezing point -50°C, boiling point 195-207°C (0.67 kPa), relative density 0.944 (25°C), refractive index 1.4535 (25°C). Soluble in most organic solvents, insoluble in water.

Product Function

1. Used as an intermediate of sodium dioctanoate sulfonate succinate (fast penetrating agent T). This product can also be used as an internal plasticizer, can be copolymerized with vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, styrene and acrylates, the copolymer obtained has excellent impact resistance, anti-cracking properties, electrical properties and optical properties, can be used in films, coatings, adhesives, rubber, pigment curing agent, petroleum additives, paper treatment agents and so on. The copolymer with vinyl acetate is elastic and rubbery, and can be used as paint. The copolymer with vinyl chloride is a good low-temperature softener. However, the proportion of this product in the copolymer should not be too large, generally not more than 10%. When it is too large, the heat resistance and mechanical properties of the copolymer resin will be reduced.
2. The copolymer can be used as an internal plasticizer, but also as an adhesive, petroleum additives, etc.

Preparation of dioctyl maleate
Add 180kg of maleic anhydride, 510kg of isooctanol (2-ethyl alcohol, also known as octanol in plasticizer industry) and 1.8kg of p-toluene sulfonic acid into the enamel reactor, heat the material to melt under stirring, and then raise the temperature to 140℃ in 1-2h, and then keep the esterification temperature until all the water is removed. After the reaction is completed, cool to below 80℃, add 29.5% sodium hydroxide solution gradually under stirring to neutralize to pH 7-8, then water washing, distillation under reduced pressure, filtration, i.e. finished product.
