Product Introduction

Ketotifen, which is commonly used as its fumarate salt, is a white crystalline powder, odorless and bitter in taste. Soluble in methanol, slightly soluble in water or ethanol, very slightly soluble in acetone or chloroform. Melting point 191~195 ℃, exogenous, endogenous and mixed asthma have the effect of preventing attacks, the total effective rate of 65% ~ 70%. The number of attacks is reduced and the symptoms are significantly reduced after using the drug. The efficacy of children's asthma is better than that of adult asthma. The efficacy of exogenous asthma was faster than that of endogenous asthma, and the efficacy of oral administration of the product (1 mg twice daily) was at least as good as that of inhalation of sodium cromoglycate (20 mg four times daily), with maximal efficacy being seen at 6 to 12 weeks after administration of the drug. No tolerance was observed, and no relapses were seen with interruptions in dosing. In addition, eye drops are used to treat allergic conjunctivitis.

Product Function

Ketotifen can be used to relieve and prevent the itching and irritation of the eyes associated with most seasonal allergies, with onset of action occurring within a few minutes of administration and a drug metabolism half-life of approximately 12 hours. The drug has not been studied in children under three years of age. In addition to antihistamine activity, it is a functional leukotriene antagonist [8] and phosphodiesterase inhibitor.

Oral ketotifenol has been used in Canada, Europe, and Mexico for the treatment of asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, chronic urticaria, cold urticaria, cholinergic urticaria, as well as systemic mast cell disorders including mastocytosis, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), allergic and non-allergic anaphylactic reactions, angioedema, and food allergies.

In the United States, ketotifen is available by prescription. For adults and older children with asthma or allergic disease, the recommended dose of ketotifen is 1 mg/dose twice daily. For uses related to the treatment of hives, the FDA staff recommends a more extensive evaluation.

The drug may also help relieve irritable bowel syndrome.

 

Product Application 

This agent can be widely used in a variety of IgE-mediated allergic diseases, including bronchial asthma, wheezing bronchitis, allergic cough, allergic rhinitis, allergic hay fever, allergic conjunctivitis, acute or chronic urticaria, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, photosensitized dermatitis, food allergy, drug allergy, insect allergy and so on. It is also effective in vasculitis caused by immune complexes, such as purpura.

Usage and dosage
Adults and children over 12 years of age should take 1mg twice daily, usually once in the morning and once in the evening. For patients with evening seizures, it can be changed to 1mg twice a day before going to bed, 0.5mg twice a day for children aged 6-12 years, 0.05mg per kilogram of body weight per day for children aged 3-6 years, and it is not recommended to use this drug for children under 3 years of age.
Eye drops, 1 to 2 drops/dose, 4 times/day (morning, midday, evening, and at bedtime), or as directed by a physician.
