What is Losartan?
Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor (AT1) blocking agent. There are two subtypes of angiotensin II receptors, AT1 and AT2. AT1 receptors are mainly distributed in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac tissue, while AT2 receptors are mainly distributed in the adrenal medulla and other sites. Blocking AT1 receptors can reduce peripheral resistance and blood volume, resulting in lower blood pressure, with an antihypertensive effect similar to that of enalapril.
